Chiropractic Adjustments:

chiropractic-adjustmentsChiropractic Adjustments involve “moving a joint beyond the usual physiological range of motion using a fast, low amplitude thrust”, with the intent to restore optimal motion, function and to reduce pain.

The word “Adjustment” is used by Doctors of Chiropractic use to describe the hands-on treatment they apply to joints that have lost their full range of motion. In doing so, mobility is restored to the joint. It is also known as joint or spinal manipulation.

Often (though not always), an Adjustment is associated with an audible popping sound (cavitation), that is caused by the release of carbon dioxide gas from within the joint when the pressure changes.

Chiropractors are trained experts not only in assessing restrictions in joint motion but also in safely and accurately applying forces to the joints. Chiropractic adjustments not only positively affect the treated joint, research has shown that they can have farther-reaching healing effects in the organs, muscles, and tendons that are supplied by related nerves, that also supply the joints.

What if f I cannot have or don’t want Chiropractic Adjustments?

Can Chiropractic still help me?

Absolutely! Chiropractic Adjustments are not appropriate for all patients and in fact, may be contra-indicated in some patients. Chiropractic Care offers more than just Adjustments for headaches, neck and lower back conditions. Doctors of Chiropractic use several manual techniques and pain-reducing treatments for re-establishing motion to spinal and other joints. These include:

  • PulstarTM Spinal Assessment and Computerized Joint Mobilization
  • Manual Joint Mobilization: Slower, skilled passive movements applied to joints and soft-tissue (myofascial) using the hands, with the intent to restore optimal motion, function, and/or to reduce pain
  • Massage and Passive Stretching: Soft tissue techniques are used to stretch and relax stiff muscles and increase circulation
  • Laser therapy
  • Ultrasound, which optimizes nutrient exchange in the cells of the affected tissue and improves the rate of healing
    • Electrical Stimulation: These include interferential current and electric muscle stimulation, used to block out pain signals, and at times is applied to retrain weak muscles for better performance

What makes Dr. Leslie Horowitz’s treatments Unique?

Dr. Horowitz is trained in the use of the PulstarTM, a state-of-the-art, patented and FDA-approved computerized software system, that provides both gentle analysis and mobilization of the spinal joints, without having to use neck rotation at all.

The PulstarTM uses precise computer-controlled impulses that gently introduce motion to dysfunctional joints. PulstarTM is safe to use for all ages (infants to seniors) and for most people including those with Osteopenia, Osteoporosis, Degenerative Disc Disease and Spinal Degeneration.
