A Personal Story of Neck Pain
Dr. Horowitz often shares her own story of how a neck adjustment she received at age 17 from a local Toronto Chiropractor gave her unexpected and amazing relief.
From the age of 11, she suffered severe neck spasms several times a year, due to gymnastics injuries and emotional stress.
These neck spasms went on for at least 6 years. When the spasms occurred, she would be in agony for 7-10 days (about 1 and a half weeks), not able to move her neck without excruciatingly sharp pain. She can recall the suffering and hopelessness she endured to this day and how it took all the energy she had just to get through the day. For anyone who has had a neck spasm, they know what that is like.
Luckily, her parents were open to Chiropractic, and both would go whenever their “back would go out” or from a racquetball injury. At her father’s suggestion, she decided to go to a Chiropractor to see if she could get some help. Within one day after having her neck adjusted, she felt 80% better and within 3 days, she was 100% free of pain.
She was able to move her neck fully! Through some emotional work and chiropractic care, the spasms would occur less and less often. They only lasted a few days if she got adjusted. Eventually, they were eliminated.
She has not suffered a neck spasm since the age of 27 (many moons ago).
From that time on, she has continued to receive preventive chiropractic adjustments each year.
Not wanting her children to suffer, she checked all her children’s spines from the time they were born.
Due to her positive experiences with chiropractic care, Dr. Horowitz went on to become a doctor of Chiropractic, following 3 years studying at the University of Toronto, and then a 4 year degree at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Since you only have one spine, it makes sense to do whatever is possible to take care of it and to prevent spine pain and degenerative changes.
Just like you go to the dentist twice a year for preventive checkups, it is wise to have your spine checked as well.
While other body tissues may have a good capacity to heal, the bones, discs and facet joints of your spine respond to various stresses in a less than helpful manner. The result for most people is degenerative spine changes (Osteoarthritis).
